Striping That Organizes a Lot
Line striping lays out a parking lot or yard: stalls, drive lanes, arrows, crosswalks, fire lanes and loading zones. Clear striping keeps traffic moving and helps prevent accidents, and correct accessible parking keeps the property compliant. HomeGuide says a well-done job usually lasts 2 to 5 years before it needs a fresh coat; busy lots and truck yards wear faster.
Restripe or new layout
Restriping repaints existing lines. A new layout changes stall counts or traffic flow and, according to HomeGuide, typically costs 20 to 50 percent more because the lot must be measured and old lines covered.
Accessible parking
The Department of Justice says restriping requires accessible spaces under the 2010 ADA Standards. Minimums are 1 accessible space for 1 to 25 total, 2 for 26 to 50, 3 for 51 to 75, 4 for 76 to 100, 5 for 101 to 150 and 6 for 151 to 200, with at least one of every six accessible spaces van accessible. Car spaces are at least 96 inches wide with a 60-inch aisle; van spaces are 132 inches with a 60-inch aisle or 96 inches with a 96-inch aisle. Signs go at least 60 inches above the ground to the bottom of the sign.
Industrial yards
Truck yards need lanes, stop bars, dock numbering and pedestrian walkways that stand out. We lay them out to match how trucks actually move through the site.
After sealcoat
Sealcoat covers existing lines, so restriping follows. We schedule both together to keep closures short.
Off-hours work
Striping often takes from about 30 minutes to a few hours, so we can work early, late or on weekends.
Fire lanes and curbs
Fire lanes, red curbs and loading zones need to be clearly marked and maintained. We repaint curbs and fire lane markings as part of restriping.
Wheel stops and walkways
Where an accessible route runs in front of parking spaces, wheel stops keep vehicles from reducing it below 36 inches. We place and replace wheel stops as part of the layout when needed.
Paint and durability
We use paint suited to asphalt and lay lines out by measurement. Fresh asphalt is allowed to set before striping so the paint bonds.
